Welcome to the community bulletin board, which is a page used for announcements from WikiProjects and other groups. Included here are coordinated efforts, events, projects, and other general announcements.

Monthly or continuous events

  • Monthly contest, WikiProject Military history. The contest department of the Military history WikiProject aims to motivate increased quality in military history articles by offering a form of friendly competition for project members making improvements to them. The primary contest available is a simple rolling competition that awards points for improving articles. The contest runs from the first to last day of each month.
  • Guild of Copy Editors' editing blitz. The February 2024 editing blitz is a one-week-long effort by the Guild of Copy Editors to reduce its backlog. The themes are: all articles on the GOCE Requests page, and articles on the November 2022 and December 2022 backlog. It began on 11 February 2024, 00:00, and will end on 17 February, 23:59 (UTC).
  • Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red 2023 Events: WP:WIR/EVENTS - updated monthly
  • The 100,000 Challenge. The quest to bring about 100,000 article improvements and creations globally through a series of 50,000/10,000/1000 Challenges for different regions and countries. This is a loose challenge, a list will not be maintained here, but the components will function independently on each of the subpages. Will be updated every week or two.
    • The 50,000 Destubbing Challenge is a long term challenge to destub 50,000 articles on English Wikipedia for every country and topic. It may take decades to accomplish, it may take ten years, it all depends on how many people actively contribute.

Recent changes

  • The WDQS Graph Split experiment is working and loaded onto 3 test servers. The team in charge is testing the split's impact and requires feedback from WDQS users through the UI or programmatically in different channels. [1][2][3] Users' feedback will validate the impact of various use cases and workflows around the Wikidata Query service. [4][5]

Problems

  • There was a bug that affected the appearance of visited links when using mobile device to access wiki sites. It made the links appear black; this issue is fixed.

Changes later this week

  • The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 13 February. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 14 February. It will be on all wikis from 15 February (calendar). [6][7]
  • As work continues on the grid engine deprecation,[8] tools on the grid engine will be stopped starting on February 14th, 2024. If you have tools actively migrating you can ask for an extension so they are not stopped. [9]

Using the Authority control template

Authority control systems assign a unique identifier to each topic, to allow precise identification of topics, and enable more accurate searches. The entries typically correspond to people, book titles, and similar well-defined entities.

The {{Authority control}} template links Wikipedia articles to the corresponding entries in library catalogs of national libraries and other authority files all over the world. This is why you may see several code numbers listed. As an example, the Wikipedia authority control information for the Alexander Graham Bell article looks like this:
